Genesis Three

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. Genesis 3:6

The first two chapters of Genesis have made it clear that God, and his creation, is good. Sin enters the world because Adam and Eve believe that good can be found away from God. Sin is not the breaking of arbitrary rules but the breaking of a relationship. The act is committed because of the belief that they know better than God about goodness.

My sin is exactly the same as Adam and Eve. I'm staging a coup on the throne because I think God is withholding something good from me

God knows that the best thing for me is to be honest but I think the best thing is to maintain my reputation so I lie
God knows that the greatest joy for me will be found in delighting in the things he has given me but I think my life would be better with more things and so I covet.
God is more committed to my good than I am but I think I know better.
