Hebrews Two - Atonement

Jesus was fully human in every way so that he could be our high priest.

As our priest he makes atonement for the sins of the people - he lived the perfect human life that none of us has ever lived

"In Jesus (becoming a man) for the first time there is a human being living in perfect fellowship with God. Loving God with all his heart, soul, mind and strength, loving his neighbour as himself, he is the first ever to keep and fulfil the law of God.”Mike Reeves

He did not deserve to die but died in our place, taking our sins and giving us his perfect record - that’s the gospel!

When we sin, again, we should not despair, but look to Jesus' perfect life that is given to us, and his death which takes away all our sin

For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.Hebrews 2:16-17
