To stay away from Christianity because part of the Bible’s teaching is offensive to you assumes that if there is a God he wouldn’t have any views that upset you. Does that belief make sense? If you don’t trust the Bible enough to let it challenge and correct your thinking, how could you ever have a personal relationship with God? In any truly personal relationship, the other person has to be able to contradict you.Tim Keller, The Reason for God

does God upset you?
video - Tim Keller: Isn't the Bible a myth?
This is the full first session of the Reason for God DVD discussions. I highly recommend this series - it is really helpful to watch Keller interact with non-christians about some of the most common objections to Christianity.

The Reason for God by Tim Keller (UK
, USA
) is a superb book, and the new DVD of conversations between Keller and a group of non-christians looks great:

christianity is a straight jacket?

"one of the principles of love... is that you have to lose independence to attain greater intimacy"
Tim Keller, The Reason for God
unfair?

"Just because you can't see or imagine a good reason why God might allow something to happen doesn't mean there can't be one. Again, we see lurking within supposedly hard-nosed skepticism an enormous faith in one's own cognitive faculties"
"On what basis does the atheist judge the natural world to be horribly wrong, unfair and unjust?"
Tim Keller, The Reason for God
belief?

"skeptics believe that any exclusive claims to a superior knowledge of spiritual reality cannot be true. But this objection is itself a religious belief"
Tim Keller, The Reason for God
the whole truth?

"How could you possibly know that no religion can see the whole truth unless you yourself have the superior, comprehensive knowledge of spiritual reality you just claimed that none of the religions have?"
Tim Keller, The Reason for God
doubts

The best book I read in 2008 (other than the bible!) was The Reason for God by Tim Keller, so I'll post a few quotes from it over the next few weeks.
"All doubts, however skeptical and cynical they may seem, are really a set of alternate beliefs... if you doubt Christianity because "there can't be just one true religion" you must recognise that this statement is itself and act of faith. No one can prove it empirically, and it is not a universal truth that everyone accepts"
