Genesis Fourteen

“Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven  and Earth. And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand."
Genesis 14:19-20

Abram mounts a successful battle to rescue Lot and, on his return, he meets Melchizedek (king of righteousness) who is the king of Salem (king of peace) and a priest. He offers Abram bread and wine, blesses Him and Abram gives him a tenth of everything he has.

I have also encountered a king of righteousness, a king of peace, a high priest. I also receive bread, wine and his blessing, but in my case the bread and wine represents my priest-king's body and blood. His blessing is given as he takes my curse. In response, I give back to him.

My giving, like Abram's is a small percentage that occurs in response to Jesus who has given everything. He gives his life, his blessing, his peace, his righteousness - to me. That changes how I view the stuff I have to give.
