Genesis Forty Seven

When the time drew near for Israel to die, he called for his son Joseph and said to him, ‘If I have found favour in your eyes, put your hand under my thigh and promise that you will show me kindness and faithfulness. Do not bury me in Egypt, but when I rest with my fathers, carry me out of Egypt and bury me where they are buried.’Genesis 47:29-30

Jacob's family, the Israelite, are growing in number and in wealth but they are still in someone else's land. As Jacob is about to die, he has faith that God will fulfil ALL of his promise, and one day they will go out of Egypt to a land God has prepared for them. He has faith that God will answer, even if he is not around to see it himself.

Do I ever think about the fulfilment of God's promises for my great great grandchildren and beyond? I'm totally focused on the next few decades and if God is not something right now then I start to doubt it.

It's not all about me. God is working a plan throughout history and eternity.
